Not all food colors are the same! 🎨🍰

Each type of food coloring has a specific use; some are ideal for cakes and frostings, some are designed for chocolate, while others are used to add shine and finishing touches to desserts. In this guide, we'll explain the different types of food coloring, the differences between them, and the best uses for each type so you can easily choose the right color.

natural colors

For natural coloring of foods and sweets; usage varies depending on the type of product.

Water-based gel colors

🎂 Cakes, buttercream, fondant, sugar paste, macarons, and icing. Concentrated and doesn't add much liquid.

Liquid colors (Water Based)

🧁 Cakes, creams, drinks, and some types of icing. Suitable when a little liquid is added.

Chloral Oil-Based Paints

🍫 Chocolate, candy melts, and spreads; suitable for chocolate because they are oily and not watery

Powdered colors for chocolate (Oil Based)

🍫 For chocolate and cocoa butter, suitable for coloring without adding liquids

Oil-based chocolate coloring

🍫 White chocolate in particular, candy melt and cocoa butter

Cocoa butter colors

🎨🍫 For coloring and decorating chocolate molds, and creating colorful drawings and effects on chocolate

Metallic shimmer powder colors

✨ For decoration and shine on fondant, sugar paste, chocolate and decorations. Often used on surfaces.

metallic glitter spray

✨ Ready-made spray to give the surface of cakes, fondant, chocolates and decorations a metallic sheen

food glitter

✨ For final decoration on cakes, cupcakes, desserts and chocolates; gives a shine and is not a base for coloring the mixture.

If your goal is to buy colors for cakes and frosting, choose Water Based , and for chocolate choose Oil Based .

The most important point is that regular water-based coloring is not used inside the melted chocolate ; water makes the chocolate clump.
